The latest On Site

I'm now 35 weeks pregnant, and the house is definitely not going to be ready for baby's arrival (but that's ok!) I never really expected it to be, although I think my husband was slightly more optimistic than me. I really am happy to have the baby where we are now, and move with a newborn rather than heavily pregnant anyway…!

I thought I would let you guys know what's been going on for the last few weeks (quite a lot actually - phew!) I only tend to get up to the building site once a week, so it actually feels quite like quite a lot happens in a whole week. However, there is so much to do… but progress is good.

We have just finished plastering all the rooms, the painters and decorators have painted anything that is dry and able to be painted. We've got all the rustic board cladding up in the vaulted space now, ready for the kitchen which arrives in less than 3 weeks.

We have started a lot of the internal joinery like shelving, the media unit in the toy room, and Ernie’s bedroom has a built-in bunkbed & wardrobes that are underway, as does the nursery. None of the joinery is actually finished - most still needs doors etc etc.

This week the priority is to lay the wood flooring downstairs (which has arrived!) Then hopefully get the stairs in soon after that.

THE GARAGE, ohhh the garage. I really didn't feel like we were anywhere near completion until the garage had started. Due to the position of it in relation to the garden and the house, we had to finish other areas first - access issues! But we now have lift off - and a concrete slab base, so that should shoot up nice and quickly now, right? I'm not sure how far we will get with the garage, we might have to finish it internally at a later date as timing and budget are getting tight now.

And then there's the landscaping which is proving to be quite costly, but it is so important to the setting of the house, right from the start wanted to prioritise the landscaping. We might just have to make one or two teaks to help come in under budget here too.
